Why this happens
The sound (or silence) of the motor is the best clue. Silence usually means no power or signal is reaching it. Humming means it's getting power but can't turn. Clicking usually points to the control box.
| Likely cause | Tell-tale signs |
|---|---|
| Silence: no power or signal | Breaker tripped, isolator off, faulty switch, remote or control box |
| Humming: motor powered but not turning | Jammed curtain, failed capacitor or brake, or a worn motor |
| Clicking | Relay or contactor fault in the control box |
| Works, then cuts out | Thermal overload from overheating, or an undersized motor |
| Works only one direction | Limit switch, wiring or control fault |
Safe checks you can do first
- Check the breaker and isolator switch.
- Try the wall switch and the remote separately, and change the remote battery.
- Listen closely: silence, humming or clicking? Note it for the technician.
- Let a hot motor cool for 20–30 minutes, then try once.
What not to do
- Don't hold the button down while the motor hums. This burns out windings fast.
- Don't open the motor or control box yourself. They carry mains voltage.
- Don't keep resetting a breaker that trips again.
How we fix it
We test the supply, switches, control box, limit switches and motor before deciding anything. If the motor is fine, we repair the controls. If the motor has failed, we supply and fit a correctly rated replacement, set the limits and test it. See shutter motor replacement.
How much will it cost?
Control box, switch and remote repairs start from $150. Motor replacement starts from $600, depending on the shutter's size and weight.
