Why this happens
Shutter locks sit low and outdoors, so they suffer from rust, dirt and knocks. A bent bottom bar can also pull the lock out of alignment so it won't catch.
| Likely cause | Tell-tale signs |
|---|---|
| Rusted or dirty lock body | Key stiff or won't turn |
| Worn key or cylinder | Key turns partly or slips |
| Bent bottom bar | Lock won't line up with its keep |
| Broken lock bolt or spring | Key turns but the shutter isn't locked |
| Break-in damage | Visible prying marks |
Safe checks you can do first
- Try a spare key if you have one.
- Check the bottom bar is straight and the shutter is fully down.
- Photograph the lock and bottom bar.
What not to do
- Don't force the key, as it can snap inside.
- Don't drill out the lock unless you're locked out and it's an emergency. Call us first.
💡 Fastest way to a fix: WhatsApp us a short video of the shutter (from a safe distance), a photo of the motor or lock area if visible, and your location. We'll usually be able to tell you the likely cause and a price range straight away.
